About

Thanks for stopping by! If you’re here, we figured you might like to know a few things about us if we’re going to some web design, photography or videography together.

Many of our website clients have been with us for years, not just months, and we’d like to think that that says a whole lot – not just about the care we put into the projects you’ll see on the portfolio page, or our consistently evolving skills in an ever changing landscape of technology, but also our relationships. We care about you as much as we care about your business.

Our desire is to see you succeed and to create a working relationship that benefits you and your business lasting far into the future. And guess what? We’re not the kind of know-it-all company that isn’t willing to admit when we’ve reached our limit. We want you to succeed so much, that we’re willing to refer you to someone else if they’re better suited to do the job. Your success matters more than our pride.

Meet Justin - Owner

Hi there! My name is Justin Cox and I’m looking forward to working with you! I’m a husband and dad of 3 and have frequently been called a “freak of nature” or “unicorn” because I am a creative administrator – a very rare combo of qualities, it turns out.

I have been doing web design for over 20 years and have worked with many of my clients for a long time – some for over 10 years. I truly believe that those relationships are due to consistency and communication. Those two things are the key to a successful and excellent product, and I am proud to be able to provide all of those things to each of my clients. I’ve often developed these longer lasting relationships as a result of a web developer gone missing (we all know someone who’s been there), and am happy to say that I haven’t disappeared yet.

The majority of the last 20 years of my life have been spent as a full time musician in one capacity or another – writing, recording, touring, leading worship. I have even been nominated for multiple Dove Awards and one Grammy, so I guess I should add “composer” to the list of services we can provide. Throughout the journey of living out that dream, I’ve continued to design websites, shoot photography and videography all while keeping myself educated on the latest and greatest in the field.

What you see in these pictures is literally what you get: A goofy and driven guy who is going to be exactly who he is – no surprises.

What does brightwing mean?

After decades of calling myself 8 Track Designs, it was time for a change. After all, 8 Track Designs was a joke/fun thing my brother and I did and, despite loving my brother very much, I wanted to move into a season of creating incredible, lasting products for clients with a story behind the why.

web design

the short version

I was in therapy trying to figure out what I was supposed to do with my life. I’d been in full time ministry for 10 years and felt like I wanted to do something else.

As I pondered a verse (Matthew 6:26), a bright red cardinal landed on the fence in my backyard. As a native Floridian, seeing one of those in Michigan was incredible. I knew that was a nice reminder that I don’t need to worry about if I go on this journey or not.

A week or so later I quit my job and as I went for a run (I like running) I was thinking to myself “what did I just do? I’m a husband and a dad of 3 and I just quit my job!” At that very moment, a bright red cardinal flew in front of me and followed ahead while I ran. Solid reminder.

Months later, our youngest who is epileptic, had a seizure and ended up in the hospital in Florida, where we were on vacation. As our friends waited for us outside, a bright red cardinal landed on the car next to them and hung out for a bit. Another solid reminder to not worry.

So what’s the point? The point is that the cardinal, to me, represents the reminder to not worry, it’s take care of. For you, the cardinal (the brightwing) should represent “don’t worry, it’s taken care of.”
